Jobs: Start date; May 15, time can be negotiated, but the sooner the better

Paddle Instructor: 2hr lake class

hrs: W, Th, F, 5:30 pm to 8:15 pm (teach class)

Sat………..9:45 am to 4 pm (teach class, rent boats)

May and June may require working week day afternoons or Sundays for boat rentals

Skills: teach two hour basic kayak paddling class. Prefer prior experience teaching, or completed a paddling class, or ACA level II instructor. Basic first aid. All classes delivered at Wasilla Lake.

Sea Kayak Instructor/Guide

Teach weekend Sea Kayak Camping 101

This class takes 4-10 students out passage canal for an over night trip. You are responsible for loading sea kayaks on trailer, gather all gear for camping, food,driving to Whittier, meet students in Anchorage, board water taxi, off load, make camp, teach skills in a ACA level II, III class. Students will all have dry suits, and capsize is optional. Day one is paddle instruction in a cove. Afternoon is a one hour paddle along the coast. Evening is classroom; topics; VHF radio, camping in rain, weather, tides, safe travel, picking campsites, map reading. Students prepare the “backpack, on pot meal”, that the instructor brings along. Instructor supervises the preparation of these meals.

Guide one day tours in Blackstone Bay:

Guide will secure kayak gear from the Wasilla office, pick clients up at Anchorage hotels, drive to Whittier, board water taxi, off load in Blackstone, paddle clients in a circle to the two glaciers, return to drop off for water taxi pickup, drive clients back to Anchorage hotels.

Skills: Level III ACA instructor or demonstrate one has that skill level. Background sea kayak camping. Basic first aid minimum, Wilderness First Aid better, Wilderness First Responder preferred

Packraft Instructor/Guide

Teach Packraft 101, Packraft 201, Guide week long Packraft tours, guide day whitewater packraft tours

Skills: Class III whitewater kayak minimum, class IV better. ACA whitewater instructor preferred not required, Wilderness First Responder preferred, Wilderness First Aid minimum, Swift Water Safety Tech required.

Instructor / Guide will be working with other instructor and at times solo on class II and III rivers with both students looking to learn river skills, and tourists looking for a day adventure.

Hours are not regular. Evening hours and 24 hr week commitment required. Common for the packraft 101 class to book on week day evenings 5 pm to 9:30 pm

Cook Shuttle Driver

On demand; currently following dates :

  • 6/28- 7/3
  • 7/19-24

Requires cooking meals in a remote mobile camp for 8-12. Purchasing food before trips, clean up after trip. Driving 15 passenger van during the day between the put-in and take-out locations for packraft trips.

Ability to organize is critical to this position. Keeping a mobile kitchen operating is knowing where the food, tools, and menus for the day are. Cook is the supervisor, and responsible for cleaning the kitchen. Client’s and river guides on the trip can be enlisted to help with preparation of the meal.
