Itinerary:

SAT Pre-trip:

We meet you at your Anchorage Hotel at 4:00 pm for dinner and gear inspection (contact us for hotel recommendations for all budgets). It is important that you have warm clothes, adequate foot gear for hiking and floating, and solid rain gear.

Trips begin on Sunday: You should arrange your travel to Fly-in on Saturday, Fly-out on Saturday (or book our BIG ICE trip for Saturday and kayak around huge Ice Bergs) and depart on Sunday.

Day 1 Sunday

Morning         Pick up at your Anchorage Hotel,  and drive to the Kayak Center on Wasilla Lake

Morning:        Take our packraft safety class; review a whitewater safety video, practice paddling on the lake, flip on the lake

Afternoon      Move to class I river and put the flat water strokes to work on moving current.

Evening          Tent camp

Day 2 Mon

Morning:         More training; we practice swimming in rapids, how to throw and catch throw ropes, safe fording,

Afternoon:       Float a class II river where we will put your skills to the test in faster current

Evening           Tent Camp

Day 3 Tuesday

Morning:        Off to a new camp high in a mountain pass. We will be running a smaller very busy little clear water river today.

Evening          Tent camp

Day 4 Wednesday

Morning          Kenai River Canyon: This is a world-famous trophy salmon river. Most visitors float above or below the canyon because it is a non-motorized section of river that few visit due to the 7 mile lake paddle at the end. Ah, the value of a packraft, we roll them up, and hike 45 minutes out of the canyon, avoiding a long paddle or the smell of outboard fumes… Packraft…got to love it. This is a much larger river than what you have floated to date, lots of wave trains to float over, and salmon to dodge. Do not be surprised if your paddle bumps a fish. You’ ll be amazed at the hundreds of salmon swimming in the eddies. Where there are salmon there are bears.  If we are going to see grizzly bears, this is the river. The relaxing hike out, just 45 minute climb out through a burn, allows majestic vistas of Skilak Lake.

Evening:    Camp at our same camp in the Mountain Pass

Day 5  Thur      We step it up today.Short drive to run a very small, very very busy creek . High in a mountain pass this creek takes several hours to run and ends right at our camp.

Day 6 Fri                 Your last day! We promise an eventful day. We pick the last river while you are on your week adventure. We make the decision based on river levels, weather, and the groups skill set.

Evening      Return you to your Anchorage lodging.

Day 7 Saturday   OPTIONAL SEA KAYAK Trip

It offers the adventurer 7 glorious days voyaging around one of the most appealing islands anywhere, in state of the art expedition sea-kayaks. The rugged shoreline, off-shore islands and series of headlands and deep bays make each day a new adventure. The west coast of Espiritu is studded with spectacular white sand bays while the east coast has enormous towering cliffs, bizarre rock formations and alluring sea caves. After paddling approximately 3-4 hours each day we will have plenty of time to enjoy fantastic snorkeling, to swim with sea lion pups, hike intriguing volcanic arroyos, bathe in the glorious Baja sun, watch manta rays leap up out of the water, admire a school of dolphins, explore hidden inland lagoons, sip a margarita and relax in great company….. Isla Espiritu Santo really is paddling in paradise ~ just ask anyone that has been there!

The itinerary:

Saturday: Arrive in La Paz, check into your hotel room and at 9.00pm meet your guides for a trip briefing.

Thursday:Continue around the north end of the island for our first paddle along the east coast. A sharp contrast in scenery with spectacular towering.
